Whitehorse Council should support locals and local businesses

I will advocate for Whitehorse businesses and residents to have a better chance to participate in Council projects and procurements.

If elected, I will work to strengthen section 3.7 of the 2018 Whitehorse Purchasing Policy. This provision refers to ‘buying local’ but does not make it clear for what, and how much. I will push for development projects to employ and engage locals for at least 15% of the value of the project. This is important to grow our local businesses and to give our locals a better chance to be employed or be trained up.

Section 3.7 is a really sensitive area to me of the Whitehorse Purchasing Policy act.. not only am i an avid town planner who is pushing for 25% + of the labour of each workforce to be local to the area, i am also pushing to have materials and supplies purchased from our local friends. Training our young apprentices is the most important thing we can do right now - not only does it keep youth off the street, it is encouraging young tradies of the future to learn from our local superstars.. would love to chat to you about this soon Sam, maybe a virtual coffee over zoom?
Bruce says:
Excellent, Sam. I want to encourage you to continue advocating in these special ways.
Sam says:
Thank you, Boris. I am glad for your response to my blog entry. I am really advocating for at least 15% or more local content of any Whitehorse Council development. My email address is: samalcordo75@gmail.com Will be happy for more chats to discuss your comments more in detail. Kind regards. Sam
Sam says:
Many thanks for your words of encouragement, Bruce. This means a lot to me as a candidate who wants change for the benefit of our Ward constituents. Kind regards, Sam
